What is the relation between culture and globalization?

Culture is that the behavior of the people that have been accumulated from the past appears in unique figure of each region or country. Culture becomes symbol of the country, for example symbol of Korea are Hangul(Korean alphabet), Hanbok(Korean traditional clothes), Makgeolli , psy, K-pop etc. And symbols can be nonmaterial. For example Korea’s founding principle is humanitarianism. The major elements of culture are values, beliefs, and norms.

First, ‘Value’ are the most high level’s moral principle. Secondly, ‘Belief’ are agreement about proper behaviors in particular situation. And finally, ‘Norms’ are real behaviors. Norms are different each country. But values are similar to each country. All cultures contain values.

Advances in science and technology have helped backdrop of globalization. They also helped communication between countries as well as within one country. International organizations was founded, they discuss the problem of environment, war, hunger and disease. Globalization is a multidimensional phenomenon that complexly occurs in the economy, politics, and culture in combination.

Western society becomes economically powerful nations, and other countries has been trying to follow their appearance. A society having own unique culture is influenced by western society. And many things such as diet, leisure, economy, and education are changed from the traditional lifestyle to the west style. (Westernization) If these phenomenons continue to persist, cultural assimilation can be happen. cultural assimilation is that their own unique culture is lose by a dominant cultural group. Because 'culture' is related to the real behavior of people, historically, the ruling class had used culture in order to dominate the controlled class. (during the period of Japanese colonial rule, force to use japanese instead of hangul. Also Japan aggressively push Koreans to assimilate to Japanese culture under ‘the Naeseon Ilche’ or 'Korea and Japan are One' policy.)

Our body is in a country but we can go around the world through smart phone or internet. The more Globalization progresses, the boundaries between countries become blurry. Actually in around, we can often see people who married foreigner and then are living in foreign country. (TV program ‘Love In Asia’ is about multi-cultural family. and ‘Non-Summit’비정상회담 is a talk show with eleven non-Korean men, living in Korea.)

The more Globalization progresses, there is concern about some culture will be disappear. But in my thought, to disappear a culture is not easy. If some people follow the western culture, while some people also exist trying to defend our culture. Therefore, it is important to respect and understand the culture of each country.
